Per our friend’s recommendation, we took a trip down to Watts to see the famous Watts Towers. Also called ‘Nuestro Pueblo’, meaning "our town", they are a collection of sculptures created by artist Sabato “Simon” Rodia. These unique towers located in Los Angeles were made with his own hands, out of different materials. Some include steel, concrete, wire mesh, and a mixture of recycled glass, tiles, sea shells and much more. The children of the neighborhood would also contribute to the structure by bringing the artist used pieces of pottery and glass, thus incorporating pieces from the town into the towers.
It is always fun to get out of our comfort zone and travel to new places. Because of this, we were able to learn a bit more about the city’s history and this talented artist.
