A few weeks ago, we went to Glamifornia and had a magical experience ✨ We want to share with all of you how much we LOVE this place and would absolutely recommend it! It is a super boho chic location, our hair do’s turned out perfect, and they have the nicest stylists ever! Scroll down to find out what we each did to our hair 👀

Elissa:

I have been dyeing my hair for the past 6 years. My natural hair is super dark... almost black, and through the years I've gradually been going lighter. This time I decided to go blonde, and do a balayage. If you are not familiar with the process, this is how it’s done!

1.   Apply the hair dye & let it process

This is the step that takes the longest ⏳! In the past, it has taken other stylists foreeever to apply all the color, however I was surprised that it took Liz only 90 minutes. Since I have a lot of hair, it takes quite some time to separate it into small sections, put the color, and foil them up. The key is to leave some hair strands out, so that once it's all done, it doesn’t look ombre, and rather like a natural gradient of highlights. I prefer balayages over ombres because it looks a lot more natural, like sun kissed hair ☀️

The color that I decided to go with was an ash blonde. My hair is naturally very warm, and I have been trying to make it more cool these past years. A tip Liz mentioned is to not apply the color too close to the roots, so that when the hair grows it blends in, instead of looking like you haven't gotten your roots done. We let my hair process for about an hour, to allow it to lift and get it lighter without becoming damaged.

2. Wash it off & tone down

After the first step was done, we washed my hair, and then added toner (which sat on my hair for 15 minutes). Toner helps take out the brassiness of hair, and makes all the colors blend in. In previous occasions I've seen my hair prior to it being toned and it literally looks yellow haha. If you go blonde, be sure to wash your hair every other day with “purple shampoo”. This is to keep your highlights from turning brassy, or yellow.

3. Dry & style

The reveal was the most exciting part of my hair journey! I always get really nervous with big changes and going blonde was a big step for me. I LOVED what Liz did with my hair, and it came out even better than what I had imagined. Even though I keep coloring my hair, it feels really healthy which is the most important thing to me. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my new look, so I think i’ll keep it for some time 💁🏼

Cristina:

I’ve become used to always wearing extensions, even when my hair is styled in a short bob. I mostly use them to create volume, since my hair is not very dense. However, I make sure to let my head rest and take them out for updos, or place them in different areas of my head to create certain looks. My preferred form of extensions are clip-in because you are able to put them in easily and take them out to wash and groom them.

Having had a long bob for several months I wanted to have the option of creating length, but since my previous cut was so blunt I wanted my long set of extensions to blend well with my own hair style. I asked Liz to add more layers in order to make my extensions look natural. She trimmed my hair and added some layers, but also cut my extensions at different lengths to create a layered look. 💇🏻. She suggested that I look into a halo from headhunters and had a sample at the lounge that she tried on me, which I really loved. I definitely will look into this for my next hair extensions!

To complete my look, Steffeney did my makeup 💄. She did a natural look and applied some eyelashes for a pop of glam. I loved how fresh and glowy my final look turned out! She also specializes in doing eyelash extensions, which I’ve always been interested in getting done. I’ve asked around and the prices can range based on the look you are trying to achieve. However, I never really thought of the importance of going to the right person. Steffeney explained that it’s so crucial to get your individual lashes applied by someone who knows what they are doing like herself in order to preserve your natural lashes in the long run. If you go to someone who is not an expert you run the risk of damaging your lashes permanently.

I was so happy with my final look, and still continue to rock my new fresh cut and extensions. Can’t wait to go back for some lash extensions and more glam at the lounge!
