My Wild Ones and I have a New Years tradition - we travel to a different country to ring in the New Year. When I mention my Wild Ones, I’m referring to my best friends from Peru, who I grew up with πŸ’•. This nickname was given to us in high school by our teacher Mr. Cotner, who would see our weekly Facebook post of us partying... I guess he found us to be pretty wild. This New Years tradition started in high school and our first destination was Nicaragua. Eventually, we moved to different countries and cities, so this became our β€œexcuse” to meet up every year!

This year, we decided to travel to Nassau (and bring along other friends). We stayed there for 6 days - all filled with beach, partying, and lots of pictures! Scroll down to see some of my favorite memories πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘!

Day 1 & 2
The first two days were pretty much the same, chilling by the beach during the day and going out at night. We stayed at the MeliΓ‘ Nassau Resort, it was recently renovated so it’s very modern and beautiful! There are different restaurants to choose from, but the food (which you know how much I like) was disappointingly ok 😐.

On New Years Eve we went to Aura at the Atlantis πŸŽ‰. Funny coincidence, the club we used to party at when we were teenagers was also called Aura, so it brought back many memories.

Day 3
I didn’t wake up until noon, so there goes my entire morning... πŸ˜… Some things never change. New year, same old me! I honestly don’t know how the rest of my friends managed to wake up before me, especially since they didn’t go to sleep 'til 7:30 am!

That night we stayed in - there was karaoke night at the hotel! We decided to join and picked DEEEEESPAAAACITO. It was both super funny and embarrassing being on stage, no one wanted to hold the mic besides Dani and I - so I sang Luis Fonsi and she rapped Daddy Yankee 🎀.

Day 4
As you will see, this was our most epic day and we took a MILLION pictures. The hardest part was narrowing down our favorites πŸ˜…. Exuma was so beautiful! The water was crystal clear, the sand white, and the weather much warmer. From the group, Mica, Anahi and I were the only ones who ventured to Exuma Bay to take pictures with the famous 🐷.

Our tour consisted of 5 stops and the first one was swimming pigs! The moment I saw them, I realized it was going to be A LOT more different than what I had expected. First of all, they are HUGE. Second, they are obviously wild, so you have to be careful with them; some have tusks and are a bit rough (and can even step on you). Third, you also have to be careful with the stingrays swimming around as you do not want to step on them. Last, there's a lot of pigs, I maybe saw 15, so everything was a bit overwhelming. I was pretty terrified (I’m a big scaredy cat) so it was really hard to capture those perfect shots. However, with the help of our tour guide and animal lover Anahi 🐾, I managed to confront my fear and touched them a couple of times.

At one point, the tour guides warned us it was time to feed them and that we should move out of their way as they would go rushing towards the food. I started moving to the side, but I guess I was too slow because I suddenly hear a stampede behind me 😱. ALL THE PIGS WERE RUNNING TOWARDS ME!!! I started running like crazy, I was so scared, but knew they were going to get to me quickly, so I decided to stop and freeze. They literally all passed inches away from me, one even shoved me to the side but I survived. I honestly thought I was going to be trampled and die in the Bahamas hahaha.

Our second stop was a blow hole, where you could go snorkeling. Anahi was the only one that went in the water, while Mica and I instead decided to have a quick photoshoot on the boat (so #basic I know πŸ’πŸ»).

The next two stops were two gorgeous beaches 🏝. This is obviously where we took advantage of the scenery and took amazing photos.

Our last stop was this iguana island! Again, I was pretty terrified because they have claws and can climb up on you. However, they were actually really cute and chill. You can feed them grapes by rolling them on the sand...they all run like crazy and fight for them. Each time I kneeled down, they would get SUPER close to me, so in all my shots you can see the fear in my face πŸ˜‚.

Day 5
Because it was raining, my friends decided to stay at the resort, but Andrea and I wanted to keep exploring. We went to Blue Lagoon, an island an hour away from Nassau. This beach is especially perfect for kids! There are different animal encounters you can do (dolphin, sea lion, stingray) and different beach activities. When we got there, the weather had gotten a lot better, so the first thing we did was get in the water. To get into the island you need a pass. It includes ring floats, so you can be lazy and just relax in the water πŸ’¦. Another cool activity that the island includes is an inflatable playground in the ocean! I have never seen something like this before, it had a slide, climbing wall, obstacle course and more!

We did the sea lion encounter and it was SOOOOOO cute. First, you would go to their β€œtraining” area, where the water reaches your belly. The sea lion greeted us individually, and some of us were lucky enough to get a kiss from her! She would then swim in front of you, and you could pet her as she passed through. She also showed us different tricks, it was amazing to see how smart these animals are! We spent around 20 minutes with her and then moved to the second area. At the other area was where we took our pictures and it was MEMORABLE. The sea lion gave us a kiss on the cheek (he was my first kiss of 2018 😘) and then HUGGED us. It was such an adorable moment, his hug was definitely my favorite part of that encounter.

I hope you enjoyed this mini diary of my trip! This was my first time writing so much and had so much fun along the way! More travel diaries coming soon.
